Naksan PlasticCEO Osman Nakıboğlu was the guest of Experience Sharing meetings traditionally organized by Gaziantep branch of the Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association.
Nakıboğlu, who met with members of the association at Şehitkâmil Culture and Congress Center, gave advice and suggestions to businessmen.
TRAINED FROM THE CRADLE
Nakıboğlu, who stated that he had begun working with his father at a very young age, said “When we were in elementary school, my brothers and I would go to my father’s store after school and work until sundown. So we were trained from the cradle. I worked throughout my childhood. I made my allowance by selling various products. That is how I started working. Our father taught us to be financially independent at an early age. Don’t spoil your children; teach them to be independent. Prepare your kids for business life at an early age. Children should not expect everything from their father; they need to learn to stand on their own two feet”.
THE LOST MONEY THE FIRST FEW YEARS
Nakıboğlu, who stated that they had lost money the first few years of Naksan, said, “We lost money for a few years. My brother went to Istanbul to sell the machines. An industrialist there told him to increase our production capacity and lower our total costs. My brother, instead of selling the machines, came back with a new machine. Now as Naksan we are a global brand. We have no problem with regards to quality. Quality, price and on time delivery are the most important elements in commerce.”.
DO THE JOB YOU KNOW AND LOVE
Osman Nakıboğlu, who said that people can be successful in going jobs they know and love, added, “We didn’t have the necessary experience. We worked and we learned. We climbed the steps slowly. You need to take it slow.”.
CORRECT MACHINE INVESTMENT IS A MUST
Nakiboğlu, who said that they had the chance to go abroad for the first time in 1986, said “We created a road map upon what we saw abroad. We saw that we were wrong in picking our machines. We quickly calibrated our machines to technological machines. If you are doing a job based on machines, you have to buy them from the right places”.
DIVISION OF LABOR IS CRUCIAL IN FAMILY OWNED COMPANIES
Nakıboğlu, who stated that 9 out of every 10 company was a family owned company and that there were many family owned companies that made the 500 Top Companies List, said: The majority of family owned companies go out of business after the 3rd generation. In order to prevent that and ensure sustainability, division of labor is crucial and no one should interfere with the other’s work. Also, families shouldn’t be involved in the private affairs of the company.”
IF YOU SHARE FROM YOUR HEART, GOD GIVES YOU MORE
Naksan PlasticCEO Osman Nakıboğlu stated that they determined the alms fund after calculating loss and profit at the end of every year. Nakıboğlu, who said that they distributed alms throughout the year from this fund, added, “This is something we picked up from our family, our father. We never touch the fund. We always give twice the amount. When we share, God gives us more. If you share from the heart, God will give you more and more. I can attest to that.”.
DON’T ACT ON A WHIM
Nakiboğlu, who said that youngsters were willing to take loans from a bank and invest right after school, continued, “This is wrong...You will lose money if you jump into something without thinking it through. The majority of your investment shouldn’t come from the loan. Do the job you know. Don’t follow empty dreams. Don’t vouch for you close friends and relatives. Don’t be too ambitious. Stay away from gossip. Many big companies went down because of gossip. Future generations look up to you. Spend some of your money for religion. The more you give to others, the more God will give you.”.
